We can get you on the water!
At Charlotte Harbor Community Sailing Center, we have a pair of Martin 16’s and a few 2.4 mR sailboats rigged to be sailed by sailors with disabilities. The Martin is a two-place trainer and the 2.4 is a tiny racer, both great fun to sail.
After the 2012 IFDS Disabled Sailing World Championships were held in Charlotte Harbor, The Sailing Center got some of the special floating docks designed to accept hoists for lifting sailors from wheelchairs into the boats.
Out on the water, we all have the same freedom of movement. The wheelchair may be waiting back on the dock, but sailing is freedom!
If you would like further information about our accessible sailing program for those with disabilities, please email sail@thesailingcenter.org, or use our contact form to get in touch with us.
